Can a cloud dashboard for model metrics help your design team?

"There is a shift from local servers to online platforms— creating an opportunity for architects to harness powerful data from their design and construction projects."
1\ Research
In the year 2020, a global majority of Architects, Interior Designers, FF&E Specialists, Construction Managers, Engineers and Contractors migrated to cloud-based project work with online platforms, such as AutoDesk's BIM360.
AutoDesk maintains its monopoly in digital production for the design and construction industry, however its BIM360 platform currently falls behind in key areas.
What is BIM?
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.
2\ Define the user
A digital platform for design and constructions requires insight from several key players in the industry. Architects and construction managers interact with softwares differently, however both are pulling from the same data sets.
To investigate the gaps and opportunitites, we must hear first from current users.
Empathy mapping
How many times will you synchronize changes in your model to the cloud? How long and inefficient is the current digital on-boarding process? With most projects now being accessed remotely, does it make sense to harness as much power from the central model data sets as possible?
Without a human-centered design experience, a digital platform cannot function effectively. In the case of BIM, it is important to address daily taks, deliverable requirments, on-site team coordination and in-office resource allocation from several user perspectives.
Let's meet our user!
A designer wears several hats for conceptual, production and coordination roles. In today's market, the need for smarter BIM strategies has been heard but it is interesting to observe how specific these requirments can be, which tend to impact project schedules on a macro level.
